Baking Potatoes

There are so many ways of cooking different vegetables but I have chosen to share 5 ways of Baking potatoes. So hope someone will like one of them.

Cheesy potatoes

Ingredients

5 medium size potatoes sliced

½ cup Cream (sour if preferred)

½ cup milk

8oz grated cheese

½ tsp salt

½ tsp pepper

Add chopped parsley

Other seasoning of choice

Breadcrumbs

Method

Lay slices of potatoes over a oven proof dish. Spread all other ingredients over the top and mix. Sprinkle top with Breadcrumbs

Bake at 250deg for approx 1-1/2 hours until cooked and browned. You can add chopped up bacon to mixture if you like and vary seasonings of choice.

Jacket potatoes in normal oven

Ingredients

2 small potatoes per person

Butter

Cheese

Method

Score both sides of potatoes right across (Squares) dab some butter over the top.  Place in oven 250deg for approx 1 hour turn as

browning depending on size of potatoes may take longer sprinkle with cheese and put back in oven for a minute to melt cheese.

Serve hot.

Oven baked roast potatoes

Peel potatoes or leave in jackets depending on your preference. Cut into quarters Sprinkle with oil and bake for an hour or until soft and browned.  Time will depend on size of potatoes.  Do this when cooking a roast lamb with other vegetables of your choice.

Microwave potato

Score potatoes into squares top and bottom and place dab of butter on top.  Microwave on high until soft.  You can scoop out centre and mash this with butter and some chopped up bacon mix up and put back into the scooped out potato. Season to taste.

Camp fire Baked potatoes

Wrap potatoes in wet newspapers or if you have no newspapers a couple of layers of alfoil will do.  Throw directly into the hot coals of the fire.  Again cooking time will depend on heat of fire and size of potatoes.

When cooked, cut in half and melt butter over the top.  These taste much better if slightly black on outside, gives it that special fire taste.  These are really the best part of camp fire cooking.

paxwill, so glad you have learned something new. Its great to learn everyday something new to try or do.

Yum! I love your method for Cheesy Potatoes. We usually cook the milk and cheese on the stove top to make a cheese sauce, and then pour it over the potatoes. But your method is faster, just pour it all in and let it bake. Why have we been doing the hard way all these years? lol. Sometimes I like to add red onions to it.

Great hub! I learned something.

Believe it or but, living in the spud state of Idaho, we eat potatoes! Your first recipe seems destined for our table tonight.

Nellieanna, Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Don't you add butter with the salt and pepper, I know calories add up eh!. Loved your interview with hubpages that was a great read, you are a real good sort.

Now I hope you dont take offence at being classed as a good sort but that is a part of Oz slang and a compliment too. Thank you so much for stopping by. cheers

I LOVE baked potatoes, plain or fancy. I've only recently discovered baking them in the microwave- great for hot Texas summers when I'm trying to conserve A/C expenses, which heating up the oven doesn't help. I love baked sweet potatoes, too. When we visited the UK, their baked potatoes stuffed with all kinds of goodies really were treats! Had one stuffed with chili - yum! But honestly I can eat them with nothing but a little freshly ground sea salt and black pepper. YUM. Cottage cheese or yogurt make good low-cal toppings too. I'm thinking this will be a good idea for tonight's dinner.

Thanks for the great new ideas!!

Hi Eileen - Scorched taters sound good. I like big "bakers" stuffed with chopped BBQ brisket, BBQ sauce, cheese, and whatever else you can think of...

A friend gave us a gadget called "Potato Perfect" that uses electricity to bake potatoes from the inside. You stick a metal rod into each end of the potato and turn on the electricity. In no time at all you have a nicely baked potato. Can't use the thing when there are little kids around, but, other than for that, it's a nifty device.

bayoulady, Sounds like a great story, and yes I bet it added to the flavor like the burning on outside of campire ones. Thanks for that.

bayoulady 22 months ago

Yummy hub! I'm for the cheesy potatoes! I bet kids would love to do the campfire potatoes.

A true story: My mom was always trying to find a new way to cook potatoes. Once the potaoes accidentally scorched just a bit. It was late , and my dad was working nights. It was just us kids to feed, so she decided to serve the potatoes anyway. She threw in some ham and onions. We just thought it was another new dish, and our vote was thumbs up! To this day, we still call it "scorched potatoes." :>)
