How to Write Learn and Earn Money with Helium
59
Earning money isn’t easy for many of us. Some need more help and encouragement with the type or way we write. None of us are perfect. Of course there are a few people in this world that think they are, oh how boring they must be.
Personally I did a correspondence course on writing. It helped me write a couple of novels, poetry and short stories. I thought my English was pretty good at school. Evidently creative writing takes a lot more as I was repeatedly told. Therefore I gave up on writing altogether. Years later I found Helium. The people there helped me to regain a little confidence. And I look back on Helium with pride for without them I probably would not have been writing again today.
For the people that need help with their writing, Helium is a great place to start out. There are many different platforms that you can write for. Poetry, short stories, contests, marketplace and many others.
Community
In their community section, you can ask for honest criticism on any of the work that you have written in Helium. You put the link to the article in there and people click on it, read and not comment like in other sites. They actually suggest ways that you can improve that particular article.
This is where it helps the new writers and those lacking confidence build and grow with their writing. They are improving with the help from other. Stewards in various sections often email you with ways of improving your articles or ask if you need any help.
Contests
Contests are a fun place to take part in. I loved it, although much like in hubpages, do not take offence or be disappointed at the way your articles go up or down. It is frustrating I know, but no system is perfect. It is the writers themselves that read and compare and rate whether your article is better than another.
They have several topics, each having normally twenty five options to write about. The person who earns the highest amount of points in each category wins the money. There are three money prizes available to write for and win.
I know for a fact that it isn’t always the best article that ends up on top. In one instance the article in top spot had the second page a virtual copy of the first. How that got through I still do not know, I checked it today and it’s still there. Therefore it is not always the best articles that win the contests.
But having said that, it gives you incentive to write more articles and compete against the best to improve your writing.
Marketplace
This is where companies request articles to be written, they state a specific price and length of article and purchase one that suits their requirements not necessarily the best one.
Rating and Stars
Everyone has to rate the other writers work, and from this you earn stars. The more stars you have the more you earn.
The more quality articles that you write the more writing stars you earn. Which in turn earns you more money, the articles need to be more than 400 words long. Poetry of course does not need to be this length.
There are also many other categories; Journalism awards, Debates, causes and charities, and Pulitzer centre.
If you wish to improve your writing and receive help with your writing and earn more money at the same time, then visit their site and either join with my referral or
without my referral. Of course I would rather you join under mine, the choice is up to you.
My personal tip
Do not under any circumstances pay to join a site. There is no need, you can earn money by joining all the free writing sites. All though it does take hard work and you need to research and write lots and lots of articles.
Where ever you write, read, and learn from others. Make friends and earn money if you can by creating backlinks between sites. Above all enjoy wherever or whatever you write and have fun at the same time. Good luck.

Great article, I think that if the right person reads this article it could be just the right push that they need to get their writing off of the ground
back again - andhave just finished reading another great hub - you are a wealth of information and I thank you for that.
Eileen - yes, I still pop in and rate so I can go on earning, I would just never write any more articles.
Good hub, with helpful content. Thanks.
Eileen, as you know I also started out on Helium. I'm one of those who would NEVER recommend them, and I've written a whole Hub explaining why!
My income per article here on HubPages is almost 10 times higher than on Helium, plus I can edit and even delete them any time I want - so it's pretty obvious why I wouldn't recommend the site.
After contributing more than 70 articles (and have about 6 of them deleted – because I had the “bad” idea to ask questions in the forum about Helium’s rating system and content) I can tell you that Helium is NOT THE PLACE TO BE for any writer that values time and decency.
Helium forums (monitored by channel steward police) are a place where you can be insulted, threatened and intimidated. Should you have enough energy to keep on taking them on, Helium will ban you from the forum.
I have two hubs about Helium: “Freelance income fantasy” and “Helium night mare”. Before you make a final decision to join Helium, please read those articles and maybe the comments other people left
I have found Helium very frustrating. You can submit an article which does well, then suddenly it sinks. Since article ratings impinge on earning ability, this is no joke. The rating system is a disaster. As I said, articles can sit high up for weeks then sink, for no reason. Also, people are assigned articles to rate, rather than choosing them according to personal interest. In addition, the Helium comunity is a very unfriendly and threatening place. I much, much prefer Hubpages, which I am now supplementing with writing for Factoidz. I've more or less resigned myself to giving away the articles I placed on Helium (authors relinquish all rights when they publish there) although it rankles me that Helium will continue earning from them while depriving me of my share if I refuse to continue participating in the rating farce.
I have been considering joining Helium for some time now. This article was just what I needed to make the decision to start writing there next year!
Thanks for sharing Eileen!
Although I have been a Helium member a while I just never seem to have the time...not enough hours in a day. I must learn to discipline myself. Thanks for the hub.
I will defintely have to think about this. Thanks for sharing.
I always find them lucrative. The current revamp has improved the look also.
Despite a lot of Helium users complaints, there are still many users who really luvd Helium. I guess it just have to suit the person writing for 'em. :)

Thanks aidensdada, I no longer write for them but they were good for me and got me back on track. I am in the process of donating the articles I wrote their to charity but time consuming as have to do it all one at a time.
