Hi Eileen, I used to defrag my computer but I don't see that it helps. Antivirus helps my computer better. I have yet to try registry cleaner. Thanks a lot.
BeatsMe. No, Antivirus software just protects your computer against virus's
You can also run a spybot on your computer to get rid of cookies etc.

Beuellers way. Thanks yes, I always burn most of my stuff on cd or dvd. usually updating it all the time. Because sometime the cd's do not work after awhile so you cannot rely on that completely.
I wrote another article about losing material and passwords.
I can't count the number of computers I've used that have done what you describe. Another thing that could help in addition to the registry cleaner is to back up large files you don't want to lose that slow the pc down. Just put them on an external hard drive or cdr The more space available the faster the rickety old puppy will go. Kind of like taking all the crap out of the trunk of your car and realizing you can go faster and get better mileage.

Great hub, but I havea slight problem. I checked several sites but they all had the old bait and switch. One program found 496 errors but to fix them will cost me. I found the same deal on another which found 709 errors. Can you help me sort this out? I'm pretty much a neophyte

I have never paid for any the same as virus checkers I always use free ones. virus one i use is avast and that is free. But all of them need to be set to update and check your computer all the time. Dont just install and forget.
