Use bi-carb soda for health, the home, and first aid

There are many uses for bicarbonate of soda in the average household: cooking, cleaning, odours, and first aid to name a few.

We all need to reduce the money that we spend on unnecessary cleaning products in our homes today. One way to do this is by using bicarb-soda or the correct name is bi-carbonate of soda.

You will be amazed at how many things you can use this product for. I will list a few of the most common that I use or have been told to try.

Removing Odours

Onion odour: Wet your hands and rub a little bicarb into them, then wash off. There is nothing worse than this smell still on your hands long after you have finished the dinner. (Another tip to remove the smell is to peel your potatoes, I believe the starch in the spud helps soak it up.)

Fridge odours: Use a teaspoon of bicarb in litre of water and wash out the inside of refrigerator. To absorb any other food odours in fridge, place a small quantity in a lid and leave at the back of fridge (where it wont be knocked over).

First Aid and Health and Safety: Bee stings, rashes and sunburn

Apply a paste to the affected area of bicarb and water, it will help sooth it in no time.

With bug bites you could try adding some vinegar to the mix.

Skin irritations

Soak in a soda bath – this will relieve and soothe many skin irritations like chicken pox or measles. Also the bath will soften your skin.

Baby’s bath

Put 2 tablespoons of soda in the baby’s bath, this will help sooth their diaper rash or any skin irritations

Sunburn and Windburn

Mix up a liquid paste of bicarb soda and water and apply to burned areas

Indigestion

Place ½ teaspoon bicarb soda in small glass of water and drink, this should relieve heartburn or indigestion

Teeth Cleaning

To whiten and clean your teeth or dentures- Dip Tooth brush into bicarb and brush your teeth then rinse mouth out. Soak dentures in a mixture of soda and water.

Fires

Kitchen or Garage or car–electrical or grease fire

Keep a spare box of bicarb in the kitchen, garage, or even the car as it will help put out a fire. Throw handfuls of bicarb soda on the fire to put it out.
